Millet Bird Sanctuary

Located in the heart of the island, the Millet sanctuary trail is a perfect activity to discover easily the natural abundance of wildlife on the island with a local guide.

This hike including bird watching, a lush and unspoilt forest, part of which is primary, inland landscapes with low levels of urbanisation, well-maintained nature trails that are accessible to the general public, rare and spectacular endemic bird species.

The Millet Bird Sanctuary is the best-known site for bird watching in Saint Lucia, especially the five endemic species. Located inland, 6 km from the coastal road, it provides ideal conditions to admire the rarest species on the island, including the Saint Lucia parrot (Amazona versicolour), known affectionately to the locals as ‘Jacquot’. These species are protected by national law and are subject to efficient conservation measures.

Marigot Bay

Marigot Bay is located on the western coast of the island and approximately 5km from Avocado Suites and a short distance from the Saint Lucian National Marine Reserve.

Brief History

The inland portion of the bay forms a hurricane hole, used to shelter boats from hurricanes. Marigot Bay is a historic landmark, having been the site of a number of battles between the French and British navies.

The bay was used as the setting for the 1967 film adaptation of Hugh Lofting's Doctor Dolittle books.

The American novelist James A. Michener, in his 1978 novel Chesapeake, famously described the bay as "The most beautiful bay in the Caribbean".

Enjoy a relaxing day in St. Lucia on a scenic journey through the west coast of the island, with a stop at the Sulphur Springs. On the journey you will pass Anse La Raye, Canaries, and the infamous Pitons. Drive through a volcano to reach the springs and then enjoy a rejuvenating mud bath before heading to Toraille Waterfall for a refreshing dip.

The mud baths at Sulphur Springs attract people from all over the world because it detoxifies the body and helps heal sun burns, eczema, arthritis, sore joints, and more.

This gem of a a waterfall lies at the foot of the Pitons, the Diamond Falls Botanical Gardens is part of the Soufriere Estate, one of the oldest and best-preserved estates on St. Lucia. Pigeon Island

At Pigeon Island you can choose between the beach or the park or you can do both.

Pigeon Island is a vast park with green spaces, hiking trails, the ruins of forts, beaches, and two peaks where you can hike to the top. If you’re looking for what to do at Pigeon Island, going for a hike is my top suggestion. Hike up some steps to reach the first lower lookout point to soak up incredible panoramic scenery.

This island was the home for the Arawaks and then the Caribs before becoming a lookout point for François le Clerc. Jambe de Bois was a 16th century French pirate. He was the first buccaneer known to have a wooden leg. This earned him the nickname Pie de Palo (Peg Leg). On the top left are the ruins of Fort Rodney.
